Oh, Terry. Wizards, football, and satire. You really know how to tug a girl’s heartstrings. I always enjoy a nice adventure into Discworld, so it is no surprise that I had fun with this one, is it? It wasn’t necessarily my favourite, but it was pretty well done; especially if you’ve ever been to a football game (that’s soccer to you, yanks) and experienced the fan mania with all the chanting that just… takes you over when you’re in The Shove. Aahhh, good times.

Let Me In is an American remake of the Swedish film, Let The Right One In. The original movie was written by and based on a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. Owen is a shy, 12-year-old boy who is bullied at school. Abby is a strange girl who moves into the apartment next door. She is also 12, but the problem is, she has been 12 for a few hundred years. It turns out Abby is a vampire, which makes things much more complicated, but explains why she doesn’t need to wear shoes in the snow and only comes out at night. And why she smells funny. This is a dark story about two outcasts becoming friends that teeters back and forth between incredibly disturbing and oddly touching. The American adaptation is surprisingly faithful to the Swedish original. It changes very little: elimination of a few characters and adding some unnecessary special effects. Overall, though, pretty good. Some may have trouble with this due to violence and a bit of gore, as well as some disturbing concepts.
Rating: I don’t need this on DVD, but I’m glad I saw it.
RED was quirky, action-packed, and hilarious. It is impossible to object to a movie where Helen Mirren gets to fire a Gatling gun, among other things. And John Malkovich. Wow. Everything about this movie was worth watching.
Rating: I will definitely buy this on DVD.
